Located in West Central Illinois, along the Mississippi River, Hancock County has many resources to offer residents, businesses, and visitors. With a population of 20,121 residents (Source: US Census Bureau, Census 2000), agriculture is the primary industry for the area. Hancock County offers a friendly, relaxing atmosphere with many locally owned businesses and tourism attractions. Carthage serves as the county seat, and is the home of the historic Hancock County Courthouse (pictured at the right), which is considered to be one of the most beautiful structures in Illinois.

The Hancock County Economic Development Association was reinstated in 1999 in an effort to enhance the quality of life in Hancock County by creating employment and development opportunities. It was decided at this time to establish a full-time Lake

Economic Development Coordinator position to lead the county’s economic development efforts in a unified manner. The position is funded through contributions from local communities, private businesses and individuals. These contributions are then matched dollar for dollar through state funds. Kristin Huls has held the position of Hancock County Economic Development Coordinator since December 2006.
